Welcome to Carter Psychology!

Searching for a therapist and coming to therapy can be really hard and feel really scary and overwhelming.  Whether you are seeking help for your eating disorder, worry/anxiety, stress, or another concern, I’m here to help you get back to living your life fully.

My name is Dr. Cari Pearson Carter and I specialize in treating adults (ages 18+) with eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating, emotional eating, compulsive exercise, and other weight, body, and food concerns. I also work with adults who have other concerns, like anxiety, perfectionism, mood concerns, relationship problems, or general stress.

Schedule a free 15 minute phone consultation. During this time, we will discuss your concerns, any questions you might have, and what therapy with me is like.

A Bit About Dr. Carter's Approach

My goal in therapy is to help you build a life worth living. While I am primarily a skills-based therapist, meaning we will work together to practice skills that have been shown by research to effectively reduce your concerns and enhance your quality of life, I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. We will get to know one another, develop your goals collaboratively, and begin creating an individualized plan to help you get to where you want and need to be. I believe in integrating care with other providers and working closely with physicians, dietitians, psychiatrists, and anyone else who we deem as important in your recovery. My goal is to get you out of therapy and back to living your life fully!

While I use evidence-based practices in therapy, I also prioritize creating an accepting, collaborative, and non-judgmental environment for my clients. Sessions with me include direct feedback, humor, (including laughing at ourselves!) and real time skills practice. I’m not the typical therapist who just sits there and nods – I am active and engaged and will empower you with the tools you need, while also trying to make it as fun as we can, when appropriate. As a psychologist, I’m not just a sounding board - I’m still my real, authentic self, and you will feel that in session together.
